Philip J. Anderson was born on April 15, 1937, to George and Edith (Peterson) Anderson in Tyler, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm near Ruthton, Minnesota which was homesteaded by his great-grandfather in 1882. Philip attended school in Ruthton, graduating in 1955, and furthered his education at the Lutheran Bible Institute. Philip joined the United States National Guard in 1959, and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was united in marriage to Joyce Rudell on April 10, 1965, at Cambridge Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Minnesota. The couple resided on the same farm where Philip was raised throughout their married life. He was employed with the family farming corporation, George G. Anderson and Sons, in addition operating a dairy farm with family help for 35 years. He truly loved farming and had a passion for watching things grow. On Monday, June 27, 2022, Philip passed away in his home under hospice care due to a rare heart condition at the age of 85 years, two months, and 12 days.
Philip was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton and was active in the church choir and council. He also served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Gideons Brotherhood. Philip also enjoyed attending Mount Carmel Bible Camp near Alexandria, Minnesota. He was a member of the Woodrow Wilson American Legion Post #506 in Ruthton. His favorite uses of spare time were tinkering in his shop or visiting with others.
Philip is remembered by his wife, Joyce Anderson; children, Brenda (Darren) Olson of Dassel, Minnesota, Karen (Roger) Gilbert of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Mary (Todd) Dorn of Waterville, Minnesota, and Lee Anderson of New Hope, Minnesota; grandchildren, Nathanael, Abigail (Ridge), Nehemiah (Juliana), Alethia, Ezra, Allison (Graham), Joshua, Bryan (Mackenzie), CJ, and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Thea; and brothers, Carl of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Daniel (Beverly) of Balaton, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ruth; brother, Paul; sister, Rhoda; and sister-in-law, MaryAnn.
