Ramona Dorothy (Kurvink) Erpelding was born on June 8, 1929 to Guy William and Hattie (Nagelhout) Kurvink on a farm near Hatfield, Minnesota. As a small child, she lived on a farm near Holland, Minnesota. She received her education in rural schools and later attended school in Valley Springs, South Dakota, where she met Dean Olson. The couple was united in marriage on March 3, 1946. They farmed for many years in Minnesota and South Dakota. Ramona moved into Pipestone in 1973. While living in Pipestone, she did home health care for the Pipestone County Hospital. She received much enjoyment from working with these clients. In October, 1979, she married Art Erpelding. Art preceded her in death on June 29, 1986. After his death, Ramona continued to live in Pipestone and continued doing home healthcare. Ramona moved to the Storybrook Apartments in Pipestone. Due to needing more assistance, Ramona moved to the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She continued to live there until her passing on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the age of 91 years, one month, and 15 days.
Ramona was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone where she was also a member of the church circle. She enjoyed playing cards, collecting recipes, watching John Wayne movies, shopping, and dancing. Ramona was a wonderful hostess that would make special meals for guests and ensured that they enjoyed themselves to the fullest. Her favorite pastimes were cooking and baking for those she loved. Above all else, Ramona cherished the time that was spent with her friends and her family members.
She is lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Betty Peters and her husband Loren of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Cindy Miller and her husband William of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Patti Ploeger and her husband Scott of Pipestone, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Deb (Rob) Waite, Kathy (Craig) Gehrels, Jodi (Jason) Boers, Stacy (Dale Henning) Peters, Justin (Jessica) Miller, Jacinda (Steve) Walker, Zachary Ploeger, Ethan Ploeger; and ten great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Art; her son, David; her parents; three brothers, John Spoelstra, Irwin and Peter Kurvink; and five sisters, Sarah Aga, Ione Standish, Effie Standish, Mildred Janssen, and Margaret Steele.
