Raymond Robert Reinholdt was born September 4, 1935; the second son of Carl & Helen Reinholdt. He was born on a homestead in Mason Township, near Current Lake. Ray accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age while attending Skandia Evangelical Free Church. Ray grew up on the farm, attending country school. He graduated from Balaton High School in 1953. Ray had a life-long love for farming, music, playing the trumpet and had a rich tenor singing voice. His passion for Christian values is part of his living legacy.
Following high school Ray worked tarring roofs near the Twin Cities. He also attended Oak Hills Bible College in Bemidji, MN where he met many of his life-long friends. Ray served in the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1957-1963. He served with the color guard, worked artillery and motor pool driving officers as needed.
Ray met Jean Johnson the summer of 1965 and married the love of his life, April 15, 1967, sharing 54 years of marriage. Ray & Jean were blessed with 5 girls (aka ‘the boys’): Teresa, Twila, Tammy, Trudy, and Rachel. He fixed tractors and other farm equipment, while taking care of the family farm. Ray was known as ‘Rocky’ by many friends and neighbors. They raised dairy & stock cows among other farm animals. In the winter, the occasional animal was brought into the house to warm up by the furnace: baby piglets, chicks, and occasionally a baby calf.
Ray would periodically leave home to work on the railroad. Ray was always buying, fixing or trading vehicles, to keep all his girls on the road. Ray was very close to his cousin Russell (Rusty) of Slayton who was a pilot. Ray converted an alfalfa field into a landing strip. One of his most memorable trips was to the Indianapolis 500. Ray was lucky enough to win a peddle car and even won a Ford F-150. After he retired from farming, he became a farm hand to others. Ray & Jean often took road trips to see their daughters and they later moved from the farm to Russell, MN.
Ray was a resident at Sunrise Manor for a short period of time. From there he departed to his heavenly home, Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the age of 85 years, 8 months, 29 days.
Survived by his wife: Jean (Johnson) Reinholdt; brother LaDue & Judy Reinholdt of MN; 5 daughters: Teresa & Dave Lienau of SD, Twila & Jim Halvorson of NE, Tamara & Rajib Dasgupta of TX, Trudy & LeRoy Elton and Rachel & Trent Voge both of MN; 13 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 6 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents Carl & Helen (Berlin) Reinholdt and brother Marlowe Reinholdt.
