RICHARD 'DICK' CARL SCHULZE was born to Paul and Mildred (Calkins) Schulze on October 5, 1943 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was raised in Pipestone, Minnesota where he also received his education. After his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1961, he continued his education at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where he earned a two year degree in music. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam as boots on the ground from 1966-1968, and was honorably discharged in 1972. After his service in Vietnam, he returned to Pipestone and then soon after moved to Roseville, Minnesota where he became employed for Sperry Univac. On November 14, 1970, he was united in marriage to Dianne Quick at Incarnation Lutheran Church in Shoreview, Minnesota where they were active members. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Diana in June of 1971, and Daniel in July of 1972. Following their marriage, they lived in Shoreview and Dick began working at Bachman's. A short time later, they moved to a home by Como Park in St. Paul. After hurting his back, he left Bachman's and became a manager of the Tom Thumb convenience store for 10 years. During this time, they moved back to Shoreview. He then went into sales for food warehouses. Dick and Dianne later moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. While living in Pipestone, he worked in sales for a warehouse company in Tyler. He also worked part-time for the cable channel for the City of Pipestone, as the custodian for Peace United Methodist Church and the Pipestone Performing Arts, and as a funeral assistant for the Hartquist Funeral Home. On June 9, 2016 he joined Dianne at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. Singing was his passion, and he sang in various groups throughout his life including: the church choir, the IQs in Shoreview, the Elizabethan Singers (a group that sings at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival), the Al Opland Singers, and the Frogs. He enjoyed dancing, and he loved growing and arranging flowers, which was a talent passed on to him from his father, and which he passed on to his children.
He is lovingly remembered by his two children, Diana (Alan) Frederick of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Daniel (Becky) Schulze of Arden Hills, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Isaac, Ethan, Evan, and Ella; three brothers, Jim (Carol) Schulze of Edgerton, Minnesota, Bill (Joan) Schulze of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Steve (Kim) Schulze of Pipestone, Minnesota; and one sister, Marlene (Alden 'Pat') Karssen of Slayton, Minnesota; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
