RICHARD LEO LINGEN was born on April 14, 1937, the 8th child of Alfred and Rose (McLain) Lingen in Currie, Minnesota. Later the family moved to Chanarambie Township, Murray County. Dick went to Country School through the 8th Grade, attended Ruthton High School for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade, and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1955. Following graduation he worked for Morris Minet Well Drilling, then a number of years at the Pipestone MFG Boat Works. Dick always enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. Maybe some of the attraction may have been a certain brown, curly haired gal by the name of Stella Feyereisen. The couple was married on August 16, 1958 at St. Martin and the couple made their home in Woodstock. Dick became a John Deere mechanic and worked at DeVries Implement in Pipestone and Christiansen Implement in Slayton, and later at Finley Engineering in Slayton. In 1983, the couple moved to Jasper, Minnesota when Stella became a mail carrier with the USPS. Dick took on a new career at Rodman Welding and Manufacturing in Jasper. In 1998, the couple ventured on a new trail and ran Jasper Lanes and Café for a few years and Dick continued running the lanes until it closed. In 2003, Dick retired due to poor health. Dick enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, tinkering, and most of all family, grandkids, and coffee shop family. He always had a little extra 2 cents worth to add to the conversation.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Stella of Jasper; children, Luke (Peggy) Lingen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jerry (Diane) Lingen of Rural Sioux Falls, Gail (Dan) Dekkers of Hawarden, Iowa, Ted (Paula) Lingen of Jasper, Bob (Jolene) Lingen of Parker, South Dakota, and Matt (Amber) Lingen of Lincoln, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy and Avis; brothers, Raymond and Roger; and one great-grandbaby coming this month! He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, David, Vaughn, Phillip, and Terry; sisters, Eileen and Kathryn; and a granddaughter, Joni Lingen.
