ROBERT HALVOR BAKKEN was born on May 22, 1959 to Helmer and Arla (Jacobson) Bakken at Luverne Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. He spent his life on the family farm. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1978. Bob enjoyed being a student manager for Elmer Menage’s football teams and Laurin Carroll’s basketball teams. He also helped in the Resource Room at Grace church under the direction of his dear friends, Larry and Colleen Hoyme. He then attended Sioux Vocational School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following school, he returned home to help his father and his brother, Mark, on the farm. On Monday, May 2, 2016 Bob died at his home at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 10 days.
Bob was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne, where he was baptized into the Christian faith on June 21, 1959 and confirmed his faith on October 12, 1975. Bob enjoyed high school basketball and football games, as well as band and choir concerts. He was a kind and gentle man that enjoyed the simple things in life and saw the good in others. He dearly loved attending to his farm animals throughout the years, including his cattle, sheep, dogs, cats and chickens.
Bob is remembered by his mother, Arla Bakken of Luverne; siblings, Judy (Garry) Haliburton of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Paul (Jennifer) Bakken of Luverne and Mark Bakken of Luverne along with family and friends. Bob’s niece and nephews, Jennifer, Jeff, and Ross Haliburton and Hans Bakken and great niece and nephew MaKenzie and Brayden Haliburton filled his life with joy. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
