Robert Nosbusch

May 5, 1922 — October 17, 2013

ROBERT 'ROB' JOHN NOSBUSCH was born to J.P. and Theresa (Kockelman) Nosbusch on May 5, 1922 in St. Leo, Minnesota where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Leo Catholic Church. He grew up on the family farm near St. Leo where he also received his education. When his mother passed away when Rob was nine years old, he went to live with his uncle, Tony Nosbusch. Upon completion of his education, he became a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from January 10, 1941 to May 13, 1941. In October, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served overseas for about three years during World War II. He participated in the invasion of Normandy as well as the Battle of the Bulge and the crossing of the Rhine River in Germany. While serving in Tullahoma, Tennessee, he was married to Gladyce Bertness on August 28, 1943 at the church on the base. Robert and Gladyce settled in Marshall, Minnesota and from 1945 to 1952 Rob worked as a car dealer there. In 1952, the couple moved with their son to Pipestone, Minnesota. For 32 years, Robert worked for the Minnesota State Highway Department out of the Pipestone location. Throughout the years, they also owned land in North Dakota and Minnesota. On May 5, 2011, Rob was admitted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Shortly thereafter, he was transferred to the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Center in Luverne, Minnesota where he died on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the age 91 years, five months, and 12 days.

Bob was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. He was also a lifetime member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post 6. He spent his Saturday evenings dancing with Gladyce during his younger years. The happiest moments of his life were spent walking in the fields and checking the crops with his son, Bob.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Gladyce; his son, Bob Nosbusch of Pipestone; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his four sisters, Kate, Alphonsetta, Margaret and Fonetta; his five brothers, Al, Clem, Joseph, Matt and Leo; and three infant brothers.
