Rodney Calvin Sumption
was born to Calvin and Betty (Lorenzen) Sumption on August 2, 1960 in Tyler, Minnesota. He was raised in Pipestone, Minnesota where he also attended school. When he was a teenager, he became employed at Bob Sandberg Construction Company and served his apprenticeship under Leo Schueller as a masonry apprentice. He then moved to the State of Washington. In 1985, he returned to Pipestone and enrolled in the meat cutting program at the Pipestone Vocational School. After completing this course, he moved to San Jose, California. A short time later, he moved to Oakland, California. He continued to live there until 1998 when he returned to Pipestone because he was having some health problems. On Tuesday, June 12, 2012, Rodney was admitted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he died that same day at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 10 days.
While growing up, Rodney enjoyed playing baseball and watching baseball games. Throughout his life, he was an avid Twins fan. He also enjoyed watching football and was, likewise, a Vikings fan.
He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Betty Sumption of Pipestone, Minnesota; three brothers, Marlo Sumption and his wife Gail of Porter, Minnesota, Jamie Sumption and his wife Terri of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Leon Sumption of Brookings, South Dakota; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin; and two infant sisters, Debra and Jolene.
