ROGER KENT HOLT was born to Orvan and Darlene (Nelson) Holt on February 9, 1943 on the family farm in Alliance Township, Moody County, South Dakota near Jasper, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at the Bethania Lutheran Church in Alliance Township, Moody County. He attended Jasper Elementary School through the eighth grade and then went to Jasper High School for two years, after which he helped his dad on the farm. Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 in Germany during the Cold War Era Time. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he became a journeyman line man and was a member of the Electrical Brotherhood Union. Roger helped build electrical lines all over the United States. On March 5, 2013, he was admitted to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He died there on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the age of 70 years, one month and two days.
Roger was an avid Minnesota Vikings football and Minnesota Twins baseball fan. He was a generous man that often helped people he did not know, without any expectation for the favor to be returned.
Roger is remembered by his two sons, Troy Schlag and wife Romiah of Richmond, Texas and Todd Schlag of Little Falls, Minnesota; three brothers, Larry Holt of Jasper, Minnesota, Richard Holt of Trent, South Dakota and Dennis Holt of Carson City, Nevada; one sister, Linda Brochu of Forest Lake, Minnesota; and his ex-wife, Mary Dieckman. He is preceded in death by his parents.
