Roger Carlton Maurer was born August 28, 1952 to Dale and Alice (Hickey) Maurer in Chamberlain, South Dakota. He was baptized at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain and later confirmed at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, South Dakota, to where the family had moved when Roger was eight. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1970, and then attended Mitchell VoTech where he received his degree in electronics. In 1973 Roger was employed by Continental Telephone Systems and worked as a central office technician. He started his career in Clarkfield, Minnesota. In the early 1980s he moved to Tyler, Minnesota where he was currently employed by Frontier Communications. Roger passed away unexpectedly at his Tyler home on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the age of 61.
Roger was a member of the Buffalo Ridge ABATE Chapter (American Bikers for Awareness, Training, and Education). He enjoyed motorcycling and home gardening. He loved music and had a vast collection from various genres. He enjoyed time spent with family and his nieces and nephews.
Roger is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Lorna (and Dean) Bowling of Mesa, Arizona, Margaret (and Manny) Ferrante of St. Charles, Illinois, and David (and Colleen) Maurer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nieces and nephews, Dale, Kim, John, Robin, Theresa, Derrick, Ryan, Paul, and Molly; and other relatives, friends, and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Alice.
