ROGER MICHAEL GRUIS was born on March 4, 1953 to Stanley and Genevieve (Nece) Gruis in Pipestone, Minnesota. The family lived on a farm north of Woodstock, Minnesota where Roger lived until he was 18 years old. He attended school in Ruthton, Minnesota, graduating from high school in 1971. He held multiple construction and production jobs until his health declined and he retired in 1999. On September 16, 2000, he married the love of his life, Leona Bingham in their backyard in Woodstock at a small family gathering. He resided at that home until Saturday, July 25, 2015 when he passed away at the Tyler Healthcare Center at the age of 62 years, four months, and 21 days.
Roger was a great woodworker. He was a perfectionist; it needed to be done right, or not at all. He was a fantastic cook. His baked beans and horseradish will be remembered and missed. Roger enjoyed the old-fashioned way; he liked things to stay the same. There was no gray area when it came to Roger’s speaking. He spoke the truth and called a spade a spade. Most of all, Roger loved being with his family and gathering with them.
Roger is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 15 years, Leona, of Woodstock; two brothers, Bob (Verla) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Dennis (Karen) of Eagle Lake, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A private family service will be held.
