ROGER R. MATTISON was born to Oscar and Irene (Higbee) Mattison on April 15, 1933 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where he was raised and attended school in Eau Claire, graduating from Eau Claire High School. While attending school, he worked at Eastside Grocery and A & P Tea Company. On May 6, 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge on April 8, 1955, he moved to Rochester, Minnesota and was employed at Red Owl Foods there. Then, in 1959, he moved back to Eau Claire where he continued to work at Red Owl Foods. On November 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Anderson in Osseo, Wisconsin. Following their marriage, they lived in Eau Claire. In 1971, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where he became a meat cutting instructor at Minnesota West Community and Technical College. He retired in April, 1992. He enjoyed retirement remaining active with hobbies. Jeanette was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2002. He faithfully was a caregiver to her for the next eight years. In November, 2010, Jeanette became a resident of Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. Roger remained devoted to seeing her every day. On Thursday, April 19, 2012, he was diagnosed with cancer and on Friday, April 20, 2012 moved to Good Samaritan Communities to be with his wife. He died there on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the age of 79 years and nine days.
Roger was baptized in 1933 at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where he was confirmed in 1946. He was currently a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone. He enjoyed skiing, ice skating, golfing, and gardening. He especially loved being with his grandchildren.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jeanette Mattison of Pipestone, Minnesota; two children, Linda Anderson and her husband Curtis of Chandler, Arizona, and Neal Mattison and his wife Meg of Princeton, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; one brother, Owen (Joyce) Mattison of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; one sister, Ruth (Richard) Anderson of Augusta, Wisconsin; and one brother-in-law, Juel (Kathy) Smith of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Milford (Beth) Mattison; sister-in-law, Janice Smith; niece and nephew, Julie and Brad Smith; niece, LuAnn (Mattison) Grudem; and brothers-in-law, Marshall (Carol) Anderson and Gerald Anderson.
