Ruth Marguerite Sorenson was born January 16, 1923 to Hans Arthur and Blanche (Price) Zetterlund in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. Ruth grew up in Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Dean Sorenson on July 8, 1942. Their union was blessed with five children and 61 years marriage together. The couple moved to Kansas where Dean was stationed in the service and Ruth worked as a switch board operator in Coffeyville, Kansas. Ruth saw life as an adventure to be lived and in 1946, they began farming in Trosky and Pipestone. In 1956, they farmed near Edgerton, Minnesota until retirement in 1984 and moved to Pipestone. Dean died June 25, 2004. Ruth entered the care of Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone on September 3, 2016 where she died on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the age of 93 years.
Ruth was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. She was active in the life of the congregation serving as an elder, deacon, singing in the choir, pianist, circle, and Pastoral Nominating Committee. She belonged to Garden Club and Happy Helpers at the hospital. Ruth enjoyed gardening, painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, weaving, baking bread, decoupage, reading, and playing piano.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her children, James (and Josie) Sorenson of Fontana, California, Janna Sorren of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Gail (and Doug) Rolland of Prescott, Arizona, and Mark (and Rose) Sorenson of Edgerton, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, Todd, Scott, Dean, Cindy, Steve, Cathy, Troy, Matthew, Rick, and David; 21 great-grandchildren, Synthia, Matthew, Anna, Gracie, Lillian, Thomas, Jack, Nathan, Adam, Evelyn, Madelyn, Luke, Benjamin, Henry, Brianna, Blake, Skylar, Kylie, Carter, Hailey, and Trey; siblings, Donald (and Hazel) Zetterlund of Leola, South Dakota, June Leopold of Crosby, Minnesota, and Rolland Zetterlund of Pipestone, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans Arthur and Blanche Zetterlund; husband, Dean Sorenson; daughter, Nancy Weires; granddaughter, Kathleen Weires; brothers, Gerald, Richard, and Stanley. Blessed be her memory.
