Shannon Alan Walgrave was born on April 20, 1971 to Rodney and Judy (Thoreson) Walgrave in Luverne, Minnesota. He spent his childhood in Luverne where he was active in Boy Scouts, taekwando and started his love of collections, including anything and everything Star Wars related. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1989. He then furthered his education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota where he studied computer technology and history. Shannon then moved to Worthington, Minnesota where he lived and worked for a few years before heading south. In 1996, he made the move to Texas where he worked in retail management at Target and Best Buy. While there, he met the love of his life, Margo Webster. After meeting Shannon, Margo told him he wasn’t leaving even if he wanted to! Shannon happily obliged and the two were married on July 27, 2004 in Hurst, Texas. They moved to southwest Minnesota in October of 2004 so they could be a part of a small community with family nearby and raise their son, Xander. Shannon continued to work various retail management positions. In 2008, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He demonstrated amazing strength and persevered through many health trials, fighting hard to be around for his family. On Sunday, October 25, 2020, Shannon died while surrounded by his family at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 49 years, 6 months and 5 days.
Shannon was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered with the Luverne Back Program, the local ESL program and was a Salvation Army bell ringer during the Christmas season. He enjoyed online games, building computers, fishing, and was an avid collector of Star Trek and Star Wars movies and merchandise. Shannon loved to learn and sought knowledge from the books he would read as well as talking to anyone and everyone. He was so proud to be a Dad and loved his family.
Shannon is lovingly remembered by his wife, Margo Walgrave of Beaver Creek; children, Kathy Perry of Tyler, Texas, Montana Ennenga of Statesville, North Carolina and Xander Walgrave of Beaver Creek; grandchildren, Vanessa, Valerie, Levi and Everlyn; parents, Rod and Judy Walgrave of Luverne; siblings, Tim (Amber) Walgrave of Luverne, Nichole (Matthew) Skattum of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Mandy Skattum of Luverne; his grandfather, Arvid Thoreson of Luverne; and other family and friends.
