Sharon Marie Busselman was born August 28, 1963 to Leonard and Albertine (Rolph) Appel in Tyler, Minnesota. She grew up as the fourth of nine children on a farm in rural Ivanhoe, Minnesota. Sharon was baptized and confirmed in the community of faith of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. She attended Ivanhoe Public School and graduated from Ivanhoe High School in 1981. At a young age, Sharon met Darrell Busselman at the Lincoln County Fair while participating in 4-H. Sharon and Darrell were united in marriage on June 5, 1982 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and graced with 34 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with three children, Alex, Danielle, and Sarah. The couple lived in Plymouth and Willmar, Minnesota until moving back to rural Lake Benton in 1994 to make their home and raise their family.
In 2009, Sharon was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a blood disorder. Sharon remained positive, optimistic, and lived life to the fullest regardless of her health problems. In the past year, Sharon faced many battles declining health and entered the final stage of care at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday, July, 20, 2016. With family near, Sharon passed away and went to her eternal home on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the age of 52.
Sharon was a member of the faith community of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lake Benton, Minnesota. She enjoyed quilting, flower and vegetable gardening, baking, reading, and fishing. She especially enjoyed and cherished time spent with family.
Sharon is lovingly remembered by her husband, Darrell Busselman of Lake Benton, Minnesota; three children, Alex (and Rebecca) Busselman of Lakeville, Minnesota, Danielle Busselman of Bozeman, Montana, and Sarah Busselman of Fort Collins, Colorado; mother, Albertine “Abby” Appel of Ivanhoe, Minnesota; 8 siblings, Linda (and Craig) Carlson of Fargo, North Dakota, Ken (and Eileen) Appel of Moorhead, Minnesota, Glen (and Monica) Appel of Marshall, Minnesota, Patty (and Fred) Schmitz of Duluth, Minnesota, Randy (and Abby) Appel of Marshall, Minnesota, Bonnie (and Roger) Lodemeier of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Brenda (and Steve) Fitterer of Randolph, Minnesota, and Amy Ross of Montrose, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded by her father, Leonard Appel. Blessed and eternal is her memory.
