Sharon Matthies

SHARON KAYE (REMME) MATTHIES was born in Luverne, MN, on May 16, 1941 to Ole “Bob” Remme Jr. and Hilda (Hansen) Remme. The Remme family moved to various places in Sharon’s youth, including: Hardwick, MN, Omaha, NE, Kenneth, MN and Lake Wilson, MN. The Remme family then moved to Pipestone, MN in 1954. Sharon graduated from Pipestone Public High School in 1959. After graduation Sharon worked in the telephone office in Pipestone and Luverne until 1960. On April 17th, 1960, Sharon was united in marriage to J. Robert Murphy. The union was blessed with four beautiful children. As a military family, they moved to many different places in The United States and throughout the world, including Ethiopia for three years and England for six years. The family then returned to The United States and moved to Millersville, MD in 1975. The couple separated, and in 1977 Sharon and her family returned to Pipestone and she began working at the Quik Stop. Sharon attended the Southeast Vocational Institution in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated with a degree in Nursing in 1980 and began working as an LPN in Ivanhoe. On November 22, 1980, Sharon married Melvin A. Matthies in Pipestone. The couple moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Sharon worked as a LPN at various places. Sharon began working as a Home Interiors Consultant in 1982. Sharon and Melvin separated in 1996. In 2010, Sharon began working as a Senior Companion and celebrated five years of service there. In August of 2017, Sharon moved into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where she passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the age of 76 years, four months, and 11 days.

When living in Pipestone, Sharon often attended First Lutheran Church. Sharon accepted Christ as her Savior in 1976. She had a strong faith and remained involved in the churches she attended. Sharon had a great love of spending time with her family and helping others, including making meals for her fellow residents in the Sunnycrest Retirement Village in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed creative activities such as knitting, crocheting, and scrapbooking. Sharon also enjoyed time spent fishing, playing cards, completing puzzles, and playing Words With Friends.

Sharon is lovingly remembered by her children, Shari (Mike) Brown of Duluth, Minnesota, Deborah Murphy of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lisa (Jeff) Rose of Winona, Minnesota, Robert Murphy of Marshall, Minnesota; grandchildren, Shane (Olivia) Rath, Jessica (fianc, Brian Roy) Rath, Jason Rath, Lindsey Rose, Allison Rose, Dylan Murphy; great-grandchildren, Cadence Kramer, Kyra Kramer, Dominic Rath, Ethan Rath, Cassandra Roy, Christina Roy, Emily Roy, Isabella Roy; sister, Carole (Dennis) Ilse of Pipestone, Minnesota; great-aunt, Evelyn Willems of Pipestone; and many beloved friends and family members. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; Ole and Hilda Remme; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
