Stanton Harvey Petersen was born on July 8, 1942 to Harvey and Vivian (Stamman) Petersen in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Hardwick, Minnesota. He attended Jasper Elementary and High School. Stan enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of 1959 and spent most of his tour in Germany. In June of 1962, Stan was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he worked as an electric machine mechanic. Stan returned to his home in Hardwick and worked for a short time as a lineman at REA in Pipestone, Minnesota in addition to farming. However, most of his career was spent over-the-road trucking as an owner and operator. In 1983, Stan relocated to his home in Luverne, Minnesota. After retirement, he continued working as a mechanic for friends and family. He had a passion for learning about the workings of engines and numerous other skills that he acquired throughout his life. On Friday, December 22, 2017 Stan passed away at his home in Luverne.
Stan is survived by his siblings, Daniel of Florence, Colorado, Mary of Annapolis, Maryland, and David and his wife Joanne of Hardwick, and nieces and nephews, Tami, Amy, Troy, Scott, Donovan, Orion, Jenna, Rob, and Rich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Vivian, and brother, Gene.
