STEVEN JAMES WAITE was born to James and Marilyn (Brockberg) Waite on August 31, 1961 in Pipestone, Minnesota where he was raised and attended school. After his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1980, he completed an electrician program in Albert Lea, Minnesota and earned a license to work in both Minnesota and South Dakota. He worked for several companies in the area including: Olsen Electric in Marshall, Minnesota, Everett Electric in Jasper, Minnesota, Everson Electric and Marks Electric, both in Pipestone, and Olsen Trenching in Ihlen, Minnesota. For a time, he was part owner of P & J Electric in Jasper, and was working for Olsen Electric of Ihlen when diagnosed with cancer in April of 2015. He received treatment for his cancer for the past year and on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, died peacefully at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 54 years, nine months, and 27 days.
Steve was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone where he was baptized in 1961 and confirmed in 1978. As a young boy, he served as an altar server. He liked his career and the Pipestone area. He lived in Pipestone all his life and certainly preferred a small town to living in a bigger city. Over the years, his hobbies included: fishing, hunting, trap shooting, camping, golf, playing pool, and watching sports on TV. Steve enjoyed time spent with family and friends and also enjoyed the people he worked with.
He is lovingly remembered by his parents, James and Marilyn Waite of Pipestone; his sister, Michelle Waite of Santa Paula, California; his brother, Rob (Deb) Waite of Sioux City, Iowa; two nieces, Lauren and Logan Waite. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Magdalene Waite and Carl and Edna Brockberg.
