Sylvia Marie Steuck

August 8, 1928 — December 13, 2011

SYLVIA MARIE STEUCK was born August 8, 1928 in Watertown, South Dakota to Nate and Muriel (Fritz) Nelson. Her early years were spent in Worthington, Minnesota, where she was baptized in the Church of Christ. She attended school in Pipestone, Minnesota through eighth grade. Sylvia married Irvin Steuck on November 2, 1946 at the Church of Christ in Worthington. They farmed near Ruthton and later near Pipestone before moving to Waverly, Minnesota. In 1957 Sylvia began working at Tonka Corporation where she made toys for the next 26 years until the company moved to Texas. In 1986 she began working at Medtronic where she made artificial heart pumps for Bio Medicus. She retired in 1993. After she retired she moved to Maple Lake, Minnesota to be near her best friend, Ken Johnsen. In retirement she was active in the Senior Dining in Maple Lake and was a 19 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Clearwater. In 2006 she moved to Tyler, Minnesota to be near family. She lived at Danebod village until she moved to Sunrise Manor in 2010. Sylvia passed away at the Tyler Healthcare Center on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and five days.

Sylvia was a loving mother. Family was very important to her. She enjoyed camping, fishing, working puzzles, dancing, sewing, playing the nickel machine at the casinos and playing cards with her daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake, and joined Danebod Lutheran Church when she moved to Tyler.

Sylvia is lovingly remembered by her children: Linda (and Virgil) Mahlstedt of Wabasha, Minnesota, Anita (and Dennis) Johnson of Tyler, Minnesota, Kathryn (and Dennis) Brockberg of Marshall, Minnesota, Gary (and Carol) Steuck of Grygla, Minnesota, and Patricia Nesvold of St. Charles, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lilen Kuhlman of Tyler, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her best friend, Ken Johnsen; a grandson, Mark Mahlstedt; a granddaughter, Suzanne Mahlstedt; two sisters, Zenith Story and Pauline Dykstra; and her brothers, Harry Johnson and Richard Nelson.
