Tanya Sue Duppong was born on May 11, 1975 to Darrell and Rebecca (Brewers) Simonsen in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. Tanya was raised in Lake Benton, Minnesota and attended school at Lake Benton High School, graduating in 1993 with a scholarship in basketball to North Dakota State College of Science.  While at NDSCS, Tanya broke 3 records in basketball and participated in track and field, throwing the discus. She became interested in throwing the javelin and while not having the form of throwing, she broke a record also while at NDSDS. She then received a scholarship at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. While at the University, she qualified at Penn State during a Big Ten/NCAA Championship track meet to qualify for the Olympic Trials in 1996 in Atlanta. Tanya relocated back to Lake Benton and extended her education at Minnesota West Technical College in Canby, receiving an Associate in Applied Science in Automotive Technology and Electrician.

Tanya was united in marriage to Jeff William Duppong on June 17, 1997, in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. The couple was blessed with a son, Zachery Michael Duppong.

Tanya enjoyed training and showing horses, camping, participating in sports (volleyball, basketball, football, and softball/baseball). She also enjoyed watching football, basketball, and hockey games especially the Cowboys, Vikings, Timberwolves, and the Minnesota Wild. She enjoyed attending Minnesota Wild games with her son.

Tanya worked for Swenson Ford in Clear Lake, South Dakota, Rainbow Play Systems in Brookings, South Dakota, and Lockwood Motors, Turkey Valley Farms, and Schwans Food Service Company, all in Marshall, Minnesota.

In November 2020, Tanya was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that was found from a fracture to her spine. She fought a courageous battle with the help of family and friends. On Thursday, February 16, 2023, Tanya died peacefully surrounded by her family at Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall, Minnesota at the age of 47 years, nine months and five days.

She is lovingly survived by her son, Zachery Duppong of Hutchinson, Minnesota; mother, Rebecca (Stan) Brewers of Marshall; a very special friend of dads, Delores Tolhurst of Balaton, Minnesota; siblings, Jeremy Simonsen of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Wesley Simonsen of San Francisco, California, Lee Simonsen of Ghent, Minnesota; step-siblings, Joshua Brewers of Burnsville, Minnesota, Ashley Smallfield of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Nicole Brewers of Marshall, Minnesota; many nephews and nieces; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Darrell Simonsen; brother, Daniel Simonsen; and grandparents.
