A passion for ministry and a deep love for his family marked the life of The Reverend Doctor Terry W. Morse, who passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Our aching hearts stand as a testament to the overwhelming love, selfless dedication, and remarkable impact he left on his family, friends, congregation and community.
Terry was a compassionate listener with a loving heart and ready smile who fostered connections with everyone. He was a lifelong learner and an avid reader who enjoyed traveling and model railroads. Most of all, Terry loved working together with people in serving God.
Terry grew up near Grand Rapids, Michigan, and earned his undergraduate degrees in psychology and religion at a small private college in Houghton, New York. He knew in college he was headed for the ministry and he continued his education at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, where he earned his Master's of Divinity and his Doctorate of Ministry. As a student, he pastored in Virginia and New York and wrote “Custom-Fitting Your Wedding Ceremony,” which contains suggestions for blending different worship traditions. He also served in numerous community and civic organizations.
Terry and his wife, Martha, lovingly served congregations in California, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Minnesota. He ministered in Yosemite National Park and most recently served Luverne Presbyterian Church, where he retired in 2012 and was bestowed Pastor Emeritus in 2023.
Recently, Terry and Martha celebrated their fifty-fifth anniversary. Their family includes children, Eric and Alyssa (James); and grandchildren, Evvie, Ellie, Alex and Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elizabeth Morse; sister, Rosalie; and brother, Duane.
Terry loved people and ministered to the end of his life. His dignity and compassion will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church in Terry’s honor.
