VELMA L. OFSTAD was one of seven children born to Roy and Katie Miller Norton in Luverne, Minnesota. She was born on April 3, 1926. On August 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Vernon Ofstad. Following their marriage, they lived in Florence, Minnesota, Garretson, South Dakota, and Pipestone, Minnesota where Velma raised their three children. Her husband Vernon preceded her in death in May of 2001. After his death, Velma continued to reside in Pipestone. In 2003, she moved to Clermont, Florida where she died on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the age of 88 years and 2 days.
Velma was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed baking for her grandchildren, growing flowers in her flower garden, playing Bingo, roller skating with her grandchildren and listening to country western and polka music. She made many friendships wherever she went. Her family greatly valued her opinions and her energy. She always made time for them.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children, Veryl Ofstad of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Karen Ortloff and her husband Doug of Clermont, Florida and Kathleen Neprud of Clermont, Florida; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and six brothers and sisters, Frank, James, Harry, Rose, Jenny and Irma; son-in-law Jim Neprud and daughter-in-law RoseMary Ofstad.
