Vera Erks

VERA ELAINE ERKS passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.  Vera was born on September 3, 1931 to Fred and Alice (Weiderich) Hinrichs in Ward, South Dakota.  She attended school in Moody County, South Dakota, where she graduated on completion of the eighth grade. Vera remained at home caring for her blind and bedridden mother. 
    Vera met Carl Erks in White, South Dakota, and they were united in marriage on November 2, 1952.  After living on a farm near Holland, Minnesota, the family moved to Pipestone in 1967.  In addition to being a supportive homemaker, Vera provided day care in her home and also cooked at Lange’s Café. 
She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and playing both the piano and harmonica by ear.  Another favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone.
     Vera is lovingly remembered by her 3 children:  Rick (Eleanor) Erks of Pipestone, Debra (Richard) Tibbetts of Tyler, Minnesota, and Mark (Leah) Erks of Brandon, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.
     Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; an infant son, Rodney; a daughter, Connie Hurd; and son-in-law, Kenney Winter.
