Verlyn D. Enninga

VERLYN DALE ENNINGA was born on June 30, 1932 to George and Grace Enninga in Adrian, Minnesota. He moved with his family living briefly in Ramona and Estelline, South Dakota before finally settling in the Luverne, Minnesota area. Verlyn was drafted into the United States Army on November 19, 1952 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after two years on November 3, 1954. Verlyn was united in marriage to Ruby Marie Harkema on October 6, 1956 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne. The couple lived in Luverne until 1960. They then moved the family to Adrian, Minnesota before returning to the Luverne/Beaver Creek area in 1962. Verlyn worked at Hatting Gravel, AR Woods, Hansen Silo, and lastly I.B.P., working in the hide department, security, and the cooler before retiring in July of 1994.

On Monday, May 15, 2017 with his wife by his side, Verlyn died peacefully under home hospice care at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 15 days.

Verlyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. He was a lifelong member of the Luverne V.F.W. and enjoyed riding horses, fishing and raising livestock.

He will be remembered by his wife of 60 years, Ruby; two sons, Clifford and Craig Enninga, both of Luverne, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Chris Ault, Heather Ault and special friend Brandon Berndt, Jerod (Renita) Enninga, Crystal Enninga, Ashley (Eric) Hulstein, and Sutton Enninga; nine great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Nevaeh, Addison, Lucas, Katie, Rihanna, Adalyn, Kynlee and Chevelle; brother, Dennis Enninga and friend Ingrid of Denver, Colorado; and a sister, Shirley and her husband Harold “Bud” Frey of Luverne, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin, Morris, and Burdell; a sister, Glee LaRae; two daughters, Catherine Jean Enninga in 1957 and Debra Enninga Otten in 1999; a daughter-in-law, Alcee Enninga; and two great-grandsons, Derek Gunderson and Jaydon Berndt.
