Vern D. Haraldson

VERN DONALD HARALDSON…

was born on March 6, 1930 to Ole and Clara Haraldson in Rose Dell Township, Rock County, Minnesota. Vern was baptized on June 24th, 1930 and attended Jasper school until the 8th grade. As a young boy, Vern worked as a farm hand. At the age of 20, Vern joined the United States Navy where he served on the USS Caliente and the USS Cacapon. After his honorable discharge in 1954, he returned home where he met and married Edna Lubben on February 5, 1955. They started their home in Jasper, Minnesota and in 1965 made their family home northeast of Ruthton, Minnesota by Twin Lakes. Vern farmed and worked at different grain elevators in the area until his retirement in 1992. They moved from the family farm to Pipestone, Minnesota in 2002 where he lived until his death on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota due to complications from surgery. Vern lived to the age of 84 years, 4 months and 27 days.

Vern was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton. He was also a member of the Ruthton American Legion Post #506. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren. He loved visiting and joking around with people, especially while having his daily coffee with friends at Lange’s Caf. He liked to make connections, to make people laugh and to see a smile on one’s face, especially his wife. Vern was very proud of his family, they always held a special place in his heart and his face would light up every time he saw his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Edna of Pipestone, Minnesota; their children, Vicki Smith of Pipestone, Minnesota and her fianc Rich Hubbling of Hardwick, Minnesota, Kevin and his wife Shirlee Haraldson of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, Craig and his wife Pam Haraldson of Pipestone, Minnesota, Lori and her husband Brian Houselog of Holland, Minnesota, Lisa and her husband Michael Zeinstra of Holland, Minnesota and Valerie and her husband Jeff Wagner of Mondovi, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Kim Smith, Justin Smith, Ryan Haraldson, Shana Haraldson Jones, Josh Houselog and his wife Angie, Jordan Houselog and his fianc Kiley Klosterman, Jayden Houselog, Amanda O'Neil and her husband Scott, Ashley Hoheisel and her husband Justin, Briana Zeinstra, Michaela Zeinstra, Jory Wagner and Jena Wagner; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Ayden, Colin, Ashlyn, Lauryn, Sophia, Parker and Kolton; siblings, Jim and his wife Geraldine Haraldson of Luverne, Minnesota, Linda Rickard of Grand Island, Nebraska, Marian and her husband Clifford Rupp of Ruthton, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Luella Haraldson of Jasper, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and Gene; one sister, Iylla; and one infant brother, Duane. May his memory be a blessing.
