Vernon Henry Kock was born to Barney and Esther Louise (Herschberger) Kock on February 4, 1924 on a farm in Ash Lake Township of Lincoln County, Minnesota. He was raised on a farm in Lincoln County where he attended school. After he completed his education, he worked with his father on the farm. On October 14, 1967, he was united in marriage to Agneta Jensen at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with two children and 48 years of life together. The couple lived and farmed west of Lake Benton, Minnesota until 1993. In 2003 they moved into Lake Benton. In 2011 Vernon became a resident of Danebod Village in Tyler. On February 11, 2016 Vernon entered the care of Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall, Minnesota. He died there on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the age of 92.
Vernon was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Benton where he served on the Church Council and participated in the Men’s Club. Farming was his life, but in his spare time he enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and fixing things. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting and music events.
Vernon is lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Debra (Bill) Schaefer of Lake Benton, Minnesota, and Donna (Brad) Wendorff of Marshall, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Samantha and Dana Schaefer, and Abigail, Randi, and Ethan Wendorff; two sisters, Shirley Peterson of Lake Benton, Minnesota and Deloris Jaspersen of Montevideo, Minnesota, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agneta; his parents, Barney and Esther; and his two brothers, Harold and Clarence Kock.
