Vickie Van Dyke

Vickie Mae Van Dyke was born April 13, 1962 in Worthington, Minnesota to Roger and Dorothy (Frodermann) Lass. At the time, her family lived in Reading, Minnesota. Vickie was baptized on June 24, 1962 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. In 1966, they moved to a farm near Adrian, Minnesota and then in 1971 they settled on a farm near Luverne, Minnesota. Vickie received her confirmation on June 6, 1976 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota. Growing up, Vickie loved playing volleyball, softball, and especially basketball. Vickie graduated from Luverne High School on May 29, 1980. After graduation, Vickie worked at Worthington Electric. On November 23, 1985, Vickie was united in marriage to Larry Van Dyke at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. After their marriage, they moved to a farm near Hardwick where they raised their two children. Vickie was employed as an insurance underwriter at Tri-State Insurance, which became Continental Western Group, from 1983 until her retirement in 2015. After retirement, she spent a couple years working part-time at the Luverne ethanol plant. On Sunday, February 23, 2025, Vickie died peacefully at her home surrounded by family at the age of 62 years, 10 months, and 12 days.

Vickie was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. She served as a faith formation teacher when her children were young. She was active in her community as the Hardwick Community Club treasurer, and helped with the Jubilee Day and Santa Claus Day events. In her spare time, Vickie enjoyed scrapbooking, fishing with family, shooting pool, playing cards, and casino trips with her husband and her mother.

Vickie was known for her kind heart and her willingness to always help others. She was a very punctual person, unlike her husband. She loved to cook and was faithful in delivering meals to the field. Vickie’s priority was her family. She loved spending time with her three grandchildren and attending their activities. She was known to say, “Your children are the rainbow. Your grandchildren are the pot of gold.”

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Larry “Hoke” Van Dyke of Hardwick, Minnesota; children, Mark (Jocelyn) Van Dyke of Mitchell, South Dakota, and Christy Van Dyke of Marshall, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Cole, Korey, and Lydia; mother, Dorothy Lass of Luverne; brother, George (Susan) Lass of Hardwick; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Lass; mother-in-law, Alice Van Dyke; and father-in-law, Ronald Van Dyke.
