Virginia Thomsen

Virginia Eleanora Thomsen was born October 31, 1919 in Tyler, Minnesota to Jens and Katherine (Faaborg) Norgaard. She was baptized on February 29, 1920 at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler, and confirmed there in 1934. She started country school (District 73) when she was five years old. She was the only girl in the school until third grade. She entered town school in the seventh grade and graduated from Tyler High School in 1937. She did housework for various people after graduation.

Virginia met Norman Thomsen while they were both in 4-H and started to date. They were married on May 17, 1941 at Danebod Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with two children and 61 years of life together. They moved to the family farm where they farmed together until 1984, when they retired and moved into Tyler. Norman passed away in 2002. Virginia moved to Danebod Village in Tyler in December 2012 and became a resident of Avera Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in August 2016. It was there on Thursday, September 15, 2016 that Virginia died at the age of 96 years.

Virginia was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church, Danebod English Aid, WELCA, Marshfield Club and the Red Hats. She loved playing cards, reading, and doing crossword puzzles, and visiting with family and friends.

Virginia is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Gerald (Joyce) Thomsen of Tyler and Darrell (Jan) Thomsen of Tyler; eight grandchildren, Paul (Krista) Thomsen; Kurt Thomsen; Robin (Jake) Schleppenbach, John (Tanya) Thomsen, Kim (Rich) Scholtens, Jill (Brandon) McClenahan, Jodi (Chad) Faaborg, and Mike (Lindsay) Thomsen; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Don Thomsen; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gordon and Elvira Norgaard, Keith Norgaard, and Wayne and Carol Norgaard.
