Vivian Mae Fuhrmann was born October 12, 1924 on the family farm east of Florence, Minnesota to Erich and Christine (Ahlschlager) Fuhrmann. She attended District 68 country school through the 8th grade. She then worked in housekeeping and child care with various families in the Lake Wilson, Minnesota area. On July 18, 1946 Vivian was united in marriage to Andrew Olsen at the Lutheran parsonage in Balaton, Minnesota. For a short while after marriage they lived on the Olsen family farm before purchasing their farm north of Twin Lakes in Lyon County, Shelburne Township. It was there they farmed the land, raised five children, and ran a dairy business. Alongside Andy, Vivian helped on the farm as well as baking, cooking, canning, and freezing their homegrown produce. Everyone enjoyed her delicious homemade biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and pies. In 1982, Vivian and Andy retired from the farm and moved into their new home in Tyler where they enjoyed 25 years together. Vivian was a member of the Tyler Alliance Church and active in the Ladies Missionary Group, the Shelburne Birthday Club, and enjoyed embroidering, word finds, puzzles, and cooking for and entertaining family and friends. It was the fall of 2007 when she moved to Danebod Village and in 2010 she became a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home until her death on December 31, 2017 at the age of 93.
Vivian is survived by her five children: Dorothy (Dan) Petersen of Owatonna, MN, Roger (Pam) Olsen of Shoreview, MN, LeRoy (Beth) Olsen of Tyler, MN, Dale (Chris) Olsen of Las Vegas, NV, and Doris Olsen (Jesus Jiminez) of Henderson, NV. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Teri (Pat) Steckelberg, Erica (Fernando) Roman, Julie (Noah) Bock, Matthew (KaSaundra) Olsen, Melissa (Andrew) Clark, Karla Olsen, Andrew L. (Robin) Olsen, Samantha (John Ruud) Olsen, KC Ryan (Chelle) Olsen, and Gregory (Melissa) Olsen; 16 great-grandchildren also survive. Also left to mourn her passing are siblings: Norman (Bonnie) Fuhrmann of Balaton, MN, Dona Fuerstenberg of Worthington, MN, and Gwendolyn Olson of Balaton, MN.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 64 years, Andy; her parents; brother Edward Fuhrmann; and infant brother Gordon.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sunrise Manor for their exceptional care given to Vivian during her several years there as well as the staff at Danebod Village for her care while she resided there. Memorials are preferred to the Tyler Alliance Church, Avera@home Hospice of Tyler, or the donor’s choice.
