WAVA JUNE ZOET was born on August 5, 1932, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was raised the fourth child of Richard and Leona (Nagel) Smythe and received her education in the Central Lyon school system. She enjoyed serving peers as the Majorette of the high school band. During high school years, Wava worked through helping the family. Upon graduation she became employed as a telephone operator in Rock Rapids. During this time, Wava met Henry Zoet, Jr., and following his honorable service in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, the couple married on June 29, 1951. After two years they moved to the farm where Wava did everything which was entailed as a farmer’s wife with Henry in order for them to have a successful life in their career as a farming family - milking cows and raising hogs, chickens, and their two children, Lowell and Roscha.
Wava was devoted to her Lord and Savior, giving her children a foundation to face the world that would be before them in later years. She also was active in the First Reformed Church’s Women’s Dorcas group which she enjoyed and was very devoted to.
She was passionate about her children, teaching love and goodness, and if you had issues with people, she taught them to handle the issues in a Godly manner. Through life she reminded her family and others that kindness along with goodness overcomes all things.
Wava is survived by her loving husband, Henry; daughter, Roscha (Jeff) Sweetman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son, Lowell (Glenda) of Lebanon, Missouri; grandchildren, Ryan Zoet of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Katie (Joshua) Eaton of Jefferson City, Missouri, twins, Kayla Zoet of Chicago, Illinois, and Keri Zoet of Lebanon, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Jacob Dean Zoet and Jordyn Renae Zoet of Lebanon, and Lyllith Rayne Eaton of Jefferson City; and three brothers, Tom Smythe of Belle Plain, Kansas, Theodore “Ted” (Linda) Smythe of Rifle, Colorado and David Smythe of Ellsworth, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Leona Smythe; and siblings, Joseph Smythe, Beverly Ann Smythe, George Patrick Smythe, Donald Jerome Smythe and Richard John Smythe.
