WILDA MAE PFEIFER was born on March 13, 1935 to Floyd and Rhoda (Spears) Hill in the farm home in Montgomery County, Illinois. She attended Alexander Country School through the eighth grade and then completed her education at Fillmore High School in Fillmore, Illinois. Following graduation, she attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. She then taught elementary school in several schools in Fayette County and later northern Illinois and Iowa. Wilda spent most of her career teaching second grade and later, Junior High School art class. Upon the death of her father in 1975, she resigned her teaching position at Green, Iowa, to become a companion and caretaker to her mother. She also did substitute teaching in Hillsboro and Ramsey, Illinois. On January 11, 1985, Wilda was united in marriage to Roy Pfeifer and moved to Coffeen, Illinois. At this time, Wilda took a clerking job at a grocery store in town. She was active in Fillmore United Methodist Church Women’s group, Royal Neighbors, Red Hat Society, Senior Citizens Club and Bunco Group. She enjoyed embroidery work, making quilts, traveling and spending time with her family. In January of 2022, Wilda moved to Luverne, Minnesota and became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home, where on Friday, December 2, 2022, she passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years, eight months and 19 days.
Wilda is lovingly survived by her sister, Melba Boeve of Luverne; sister-in-law, Opal Lawrence of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy (June 17, 2004); parents; infant sister, Frances Hill; brother, Sollie Hill; aunts and uncles; three nephews; and one niece.
