WILLIS "BILL" MADETZKE was born to Louis and Judith (Lee) Madetzke on October 6, 1938 in Jasper, Minnesota. He was raised in Alliance Township of Moody County, South Dakota and attended Quissell Country School through the eighth grade. After his education, he helped his father on the farm and later began working construction with Tabbert Construction and B & F Inc. In 1976, he began farming in partnership with his brother, Lee, until his retirement in 1993. However, he continued living on the family’s century farm that he called home for 80 years. In 2017, he moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in Jasper, Minnesota where he resided until it’s closing in July of 2020. He then became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota. On Monday, September 28, 2020, Bill died peacefully at the Pipestone County Hospice House in Pipestone, Minnesota at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 22 days.
He was a member of the Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper and served as a council member. Bill served on the East Eden Perpetual Fund Board and was a past president of the East Eden Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Jasper Lions Club, Harrisburg Two-Cylinder Club, and the Prairie Village in Madison, South Dakota. Bill was a licensed auctioneer and enjoyed going to many auctions in the area. He also enjoyed going fishing and having coffee at the Jasper Mini-Mal.
Bill will be remembered by his siblings, Lorna Muchow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marilyn (Jim) Robertson of Sioux Falls, Janet Natwick of Sioux Falls, Louis “Lee” (Diane) Madetzke of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Roger (Pat Weets) Madetzke of Pipestone, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Trudy Madetzke; and 16 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Judith Madetzke; brother, Robert Madetzke; and brothers-in-law, Dick Muchow and Paul Natwick.
